Lacon House and its neighbour, Warner House on Theobald’s Road London, were occupied for over 40 years, by one tenant, the MOD. These huge but nondescript, brick-clad buildings stood on a busy street in a not particularly sought-after part of central London. It was not an obvious decision for their owner, Land Securities, to revive them, however, designs by Sidell Gibson promised to transform the dour pair into a powerful street presence with office space that could attract blue-chip tenants.

Both buildings, have a full-height, glazed, thermal ‘chimney’ added to the Theobald’s Road elevation and the remodelled facade fabric creates a more transparent, contemporary and dynamic frontage. Inside, a naturally ventilated atrium is the focus for extremely energy-efficient buildings. An additional 7000 sqm floorspace was created at the rear of Lacon House by infilling an adjoining car park. Working within very restricted floor-to-floor heights and to a tight timeframe, chilled ceiling air conditioning was installed, the office space was completely modernised to include new integrated technology in order to be adaptable and serviceable.
Lacon House is now home to law firm Nabarro Nathanson and a number of media-related organisations, Warner Brothers occupy Warner House
