The development also contains approximately 330,000 ft² of office accommodation with one of the most desirable working environments in London.
One New Change has transformed this part of the City into a seven-day destination, creating a dynamic social space in which to work and relax. At ground-level, the public realm has been transformed, with a series of shopping arcades forming a natural extension to the streetscape and reopening lost pedestrian routes. Most spectacularly, the public realm has been extended six floors upwards, with a public roof terrace offering views of St Paul’s Cathedral that have never been seen before.
The external form of the building explicitly takes its cue from its surroundings. The innovative glass fritting reduces reflectivity and uses four base colours inspired by the local surroundings. The shape of the building itself is subservient to St. Paul’s, all but disappearing from view when you are just a few streets away.
Sidell Gibson have been selected as executive architects, working closely with respected French architect Jean Nouvel on his first major scheme built in the Capital.
The building was completed using lateral thinking and attention to detail at every level: the pioneering fritting, the large-scale geothermal heating and cooling system, the top-down construction method, the flexible floor plates allowing for modern office technology, throughout.
